Crush and blush(미쓰 홍당무,Miss Hongdangmu or Miss Carrot)
Director Lee Kyoung-mi
2008th South Korean Film
It is the debut feature film of director Lee Kyoung-mi, and also the first film to be produced by Park Chan-wook.
Yang Mi-sook is an unpopular and frumpy high school Russian teacher, who has a habit of going red in the face. For ten years she has been harbouring a crush on Seo Jong-cheol, her former teacher and now married colleague, though he is more interested in pretty new teacher Lee Yoo-ri. Mi-sook tries to put a halt to this blossoming romance, forming an unlikely alliance with Jong-cheol's daughter, Jong-hee.
The main character, Yang Mi-suk transforms herself into an oddball social outcast devoid of any sexuality. The actress Gong Hyo-jin managed to play this character very well in balance. Her performance was not much of getting us sympathy or nauseating but let us support her anyway.
Through her revenge play and running fight, we just became her, we got into the situation. Isn't it the common feeling that everybody has had to have jealousy over distinguished people? SAD!
We see the burst of all the emotion among relationship, narcissism and even ego, the last part doesn't quite last clearly. It is a kinda of Korean style movie that gives us some moral lessons.
Though this movie is so intriguing and just adorable.
Don't have to mention of Carl Gustav Jung's theory involved with Anima and Animus, you will see :)
